What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a proven safe and effective 100-year-old form of manual therapy utilized to relieve many musculoskeletal related complaints.  This includes neck and back pain, disc herniations, sciatica, sprains, strains, aches, pains, headaches migraines, whiplash, numbness, tingling, paresthesia and more.  Chiropractors strive to utilize natural remedies and supplements to promote healing and wellness knowing that many prescription medications have negative side effects.   In addition, they use medical equipment commonly shared by physical therapists such as various forms of electricity, ultrasound, laser, heat/ice, balance boards, and other rehabilitation equipment. They generally promote a healthy regimen of diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications before considering surgery or medication...something every doctor should do!

What can my family chiropractor do for me?

In Oregon, a chiropractor can act as primary care physician or can be specialist in a variety of fields such as: pediatrics, geriatrics, pain management, women's care, wellness and preventative care, sports medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation, occupational medicine, diet, nutrition,  weight loss counseling and more.  Depending on your condition, a chiropractor will utilize conservative and natural approaches to address the cause of your problem, not simply cover up the symptoms with medication.

Chiropractors use spinal manipulation, massage, rehabilitation exercises, and natural dietary supplements to address most muscle and joint complaints like low back pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. However, this is only one aspect of chiropractic.  A chiropractor will also analyze and address changes a patient may need to make in their workplace, in their sport, or at home to prevent the problem from returning. Finally, a chiropractor will offer advice on how to live healthy on a permanent basis advising changes in eating habits, exercise routines, and specific nutrient and supplementary needs.

How does the approach of a chiropractic physician differ from my traditional doctor?

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
 - Benjamin Franklin

Chiropractors are more aligned with non-invasive medical practices rather than traditional more invasive procedures.  Western medicine attempts to kill a disease or the causative micro-organism through invasive surgery, chemical or radiation exposure, or prescription medication.  While chiropractic medicine attempts to rectify one's lifestyle or change the body's terrain that attracts the micro-organism or disease in the first place and allows it to flourish.  The former can lead to negative side effects, and increasingly resistant strains of bacteria and diseases, requiring stronger medication.   While the latter leads to increasingly resistant and naturally immune bodies that prevent disease in the first place.

Given the choice wouldn't you prefer a
safer, long term solution with little to no side effects?

Health care costs are skyrocketing and we are becoming more and more dependent on medication to temporarily solve our problems.   It is time we look for safer, more permanent solutions and take back control of our health.

What do you mean "improve the body's terrain"?

The older we get, the busier we get and the less time we have for taking care of ourselves.  We spend more and more time in front of the TV, on the computer, phone, internet, and playing video games.  We are less active and have less time putting more dependence on convenient fast foods full of saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium.

You are what you eat.  It is that simple.  There is no diet nor pill that can create the healthy body and lifestyle you desire.  The answer lies in eating real wholesome food not food-like products.  When you d
iet you create a temporary change in eating habits but expect permanent results.  You may loose a few pounds but eventually they come back.  Meanwhile, you exhaust much effort and money only to end up back where you began.  This constant weight cycling is terrible for your body.  But how can we learn to eat and live healthy when our own government food pyramid is influenced by agricultural lobbyists and we are inundated with a barrage of pharmaceutical commercials promising health in a bottle every day?

Health is available without a prescription!

A chiropractor can offer real, non-biased, evidence-based advice on proper eating, supplementation, and efficient exercise to fight and prevent obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases.   Advice that is not influenced by compensation from pharmaceutical companies, weight loss programs, or insurance companies and at a fraction of the cost of traditional medical care.  Isn't that the way it should be?
